The break
Playa de Merón. A long beach break — lighter crowds, honest waves. Paddle out the door.

A hostel. Not a hotel.
Albergue Playa de Merón. A small hostel at the edge of San Vicente de la Barquera — for surfers, pilgrims, and anyone who just needs a good night by the sea.
This is not a hotel. It is a room above the ocean,a kettle that works, a hot shower after a cold day in the water, and a drawer big enough for your pack.
Bring your board. Bring your boots. Bring your blisters. We'll look after the sleep.
We keep the list short on purpose. The rest is up to the weather.
Honest internet. Enough to post the sunset, not enough to keep you indoors.
A battered paddle, a spinning ball, a table in the common room. Rivalries start here.
Long ones. The kind you need after an hour of cold Atlantic.
Round the clock. For the 2 a.m. tea, the 6 a.m. coffee, the midnight noodles.
Lockable, roomy, yours for the stay. A whole backpack fits. Boards go downstairs.
White walls. Real sheets. A window that opens. A bed that lets you sleep like a tide going out.

A kitchen if you want one. A paddle for the ping-pong. Strangers who won't stay strangers. The fire goes on when the weather says so.

Playa de Merón. A long beach break — lighter crowds, honest waves. Paddle out the door.

The Camino del Norte passes the front door. Santiago is roughly 580 km west. We stamp credentials.

San Vicente de la Barquera. Old stone, old bridge, and probably the best bowl of cocido on the coast.
